New Comics Highlights

Dark Ages # 1
Writer, Dan Abnett was one of the driving forces behind the “cosmic” Marvel revival in the early 2000’s that eventually led to The Guardians of the Galaxy we saw on the silver screen a few days ago. The Vertigo mini-series, The New Deadwardians was Abnett’s last collaboration with artist, I.N.J. Culbard, and that turned out pretty great.  There’s an interview with Abnett about his new book over at CBR.

Godzilla: Cataclysm # 1
IDW‘s new Godzilla series has a post-apocalyptic take on the famous monster, this time jumping into the future after Godzilla and Co have pretty much decimated all of humanity. This one’s written by Cullen Bunn (Sixth Gun) with art by Dave Wachter. I’m not familiar with the artist, but there are some preview pages over at CBR that look terrific.

Back in Stock

2nd printings all around for Grayson #1, Transformers vs GI JOE # 1, and     Squidder # 1 if you missed out.

Graphic Novels Highlights

Displaced Persons
This one’s by Derek McCulloch and Anthony Peruzzo. Haven’t read any of their prior work, but it sounds cool. There’s an interview with the creators at Comics Bulletin and some preview pages here.
Cover Price: $17.99
Pulp Fiction Price: $14.39 (20% off)

GI JOE Silent Interlude 30th Anniversary Ed HC
I’ve actually just started to dip my toe into Larry Hama’s 30 year run on GI JOE. I haven’t gotten this far yet, but apparently this Snake Eyes story is one of the most influential issues. CBR has an interview with Lama about the “silent” issue. Also Hama-related, I really enjoyed this article at Comics Alliance written by Tom Scioli the co-creator of the current GI Joe vs Transformers.  It really demonstrates what makes the GI Joe comics cool.
Cover Price: $19.99
Pulp Fiction Price: $15.99 (20% off)

The Guns of Shadow Valley HC

I managed to get one of these at San Diego. The book is just gorgeous and very cinematic. It takes full advantage of the landscape format for a very widescreen film aesthetic. Check out the video preview posted on their Kickstarter page.
Cover Price: $24.99
Pulp Fiction Price: $17.49 (30% off)

Heart of the Beast HC 20th Annv Ed

First time hearing of this one since it hasn’t been collected since 1995! CBR wrote up the press release from SDCC about the re-release.  Personally, I was sold as soon as I read “featuring lavishly painted artwork by Sean Phillips.”
Cover Price: $24.99
Pulp Fiction Price: $19.99 (20% off)

Scott Pilgrim Color HC Vol 5

You know the score. Only one more color volume left to go! November can’t get here soon enough.
Cover Price: $24.99
Pulp Fiction Price: $19.99 (20% off)

Star Wars Lucas Draft Deluxe Ed HC Box Set
This one apparently has two whole volumes of extras, but I’m not sure what those extras are. If you were waiting for the Cadillac version this is it.
Cover Price: $99.99
Pulp Fiction Price: $69.99 (30% off)

Dave Gibbons Watchmen Artifact Ed HC
The latest Artist Edition from IDW is a classic. CBR wrote up the announcement from NYCC last October.
Cover Price: $TBD
Pulp Fiction Price: $TBD
