We’re finally having our first art class in Culver City! Look below under the Upcoming Events section for more details! I have also updated the Events page on the site with info and links for the artists that will be joining us for this upcoming Artist Alley Saturday, including Madeline Holly Rosing whose book, Boston Metaphysical Society was featured on Bleeding Cool!
It’s been a slow couple of weeks for new comics, but this week we pick up the pace with a new DC series by Grant Morrisson and another Image release from Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips, the creative team that brought us Sleeper, Criminal, Incognito, and Fatale! There are also a couple of exciting all-ages releases this week!
Lastly, if you’ve ever thought about jumping into Elephantmen (one of my favorite sci fi titles) and you can make it to the Culver City store in the next few days, we have a couple of signed and sketched copies of the Mammoth Edition. Elephantmen creator and writer, Richard Starkings dropped by over the weekend and was nice enough to sign a couple of copies.

After many promises and even more anticipation, Pulp Fiction Culver City has finally scheduled its first art class! And best of all, it is FREE!!! Local art teacher and creator Darrell Fusaro will be bring his “Introduction to Drawing Comics” workshop to the Pulp Fiction loft on Saturday, September 6th, from noon-1:30pm. Introduction to Drawing Comics
In this enjoyable workshop, aimed at beginners but open to all levels, you’ll learn how to create your own cartoon characters and show them in action, even if you’ve never drawn before. It’s fun and easy; anyone can learn. Plus, you’ll learn some possible ways to get your artwork published and make money from your cartooning. Whether you’re interested in gag cartoons, greeting cards, humorous illustration, drawing comic books or newspaper strips, or taking this workshop just for fun, you’ll have fun and learn a lot. Taught by Darrell Fusaro. Total beginners are welcome.

New Comics Highlights
The Fade Out # 1
It’s Brubaker,Phillips and Hollywood noir. If that doesn’t say it all, then you haven’t been paying attention to this brilliant creative team. This first issue is oversize (a whopping 40 pages) and if it’s anything like their past titles, it will have the most awesome back-ups ever: essays, interviews, etc. Also, since Criminal, Brubaker has been adamant about the back-ups being exclusive to the monthly floppies so don’t trade-wait on this one! We will also have the 40s style magazine variant, but only a few! You can check our a preview here.
Multiversity # 1
Multiversity is the much-anticipated DC title written by Grant Morrisson and drawn by a host of amazing artists that takes you on a tour of the multi-verse. Grant Morrison as a creator is absolutely in love with the multiverse concept of DC comics which should make this very exciting! Read more about it here.
