Newsletter 8/4/14

Thank you to all the creators and customers who participated in our first Artist Alley Saturday this past weekend! For those that couldn’t make it, we still have a few copies of some of the creators’ books here for sale. Stay tuned for details about our next Artist Alley Saturday!

Guardians of the Galaxy made 94 million dollars this weekend! Or as I like to think of it, James Gunn made an incredibly successful big-budget Summer movie. Good for him. Loved Slither and Super.  If you’re not Drax and some Marvel movie stuff went over your head (I’m so sorry), check out this video compiling all the Easter eggs from every Marvel movie so far.

New Releases for 8/6/14

There were a ton of new graphic novels this week, but I didn’t have time to go over all of them here. Make sure you click here for a full list of all of this week’s new releases.

New Comics Highlights

Kick Ass 3 Finale
It’s finally here! Of all the release dates I’m asked to check from time to time, the Kick Ass 3 finale takes the cake. Rest-assured that this is the week the finale will be here in all its blood-soaked glory.

Steven Universe # 1
Apparently, Steven Universe is a cartoon created by Rebecca Sugar, former storyboard artist, writer, and composer for Adventure Time so I’m assuming this book will hit big with the Adventure Time, Regular Show, Bravest Warriors, Bee and Puppycat crowd. It’s being published in “zine” format so it’ll include mini comics, games, recipes, etc.

Terminal Hero # 1
This feels like the first non-DC book Peter Milligan has worked on in forever. Not sure what it’s about, but if it’s written by the guy worked on Shade: The Changing Man, X-Statix, and Hellblazer, then it’s sure to be interesting.

The Spread # 1 (2nd printing) & 2
We sold out of the first issue super fast, but this week we have come prepared! If you haven’t already, check out this book that’s Lone Wolf and Cub by way of Mad Max and The Thing.

Death of Archie Life Celebrated TP
They killed off Earth 2 Archie and you can read all about it here!

Pulp Fiction Price: $11.99 (20% off)

The Bunker Vol 1 TP
The Bunker is about a group of friends who decide to bury a time capsule in the woods only to find a bunker with their names inscribed on it. Can’t say anything else without spoiling this great twisty mystery from the mind of Josh Fialkov. I’ve had people from all over LA trying to track down these back issues, and with good reason. Highly recommended.
Cover Price: $19.99
Pulp Fiction Price: $15.99 (20% off)

Fury Max HC My War Gone By

I haven’t read any of this yet, but I am going to buy it sight unseen because it’s written by Garth Ennis and takes place in the Punisher MAX universe he created, one of my all time favorite series. Can’t wait.
Cover Price: $34.99
Pulp Fiction Price: $20.99 (40% off)

Filler Bunny Collected Works TP

Depending on how old you are and how deep you get into artists, you either knowJhonen Vasquez from his comic, Johhny the Homicidal Maniac or from his TV show, Invader Zim, or maybe both.  This is another earlier, long out of print series by Vasquez back by popular demand.

Pulp Fiction Price: $20.99 (40% off)

Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale HC Yellow Blue and Gray

I Was the Cat HC
This was getting a lot of attention at the Oni booth at San Diego. It’s about a successful journalist who is anonymously contacted with a lucrative offer to write someone’s memoirs.
