Pulp Fiction Newsletter Week of 10/26/16

Hello everyone! We’re busy getting ready for Comikaze this coming weekend (or I guess we’re calling Los Angeles Comic Con now??). We’re going to have a bigger setup than normal. Come by and say hello if you’re attending!

There are also a couple of new books by friends of Pulp Fiction this week! Our good friend Georges Jeanty has drawn another new Serenity series that starts this week AND there’s a new Monster Elementary book just in time for Halloween. Don’t forget to visit them at the Culver City store this weekend and ask them who their favorite monsters are.

Finally on a more somber note, British artist Steve Dillon passed away last week. His career spanned many publishers and genres, but he is probably best known in the states for his work with Garth Ennis on Hellblazer and The Punisher, as well as the artist and co-creator of Preacher. Those of you that have conversed with me at length know Preacher is one of my favorite books so of course the news is a huge bummer. Below is a video I made earlier this year about what makes Preacher special.  It’s super super NOT SAFE FOR WORK and I’d like to think Mr. Dillon would have appreciated that. Cheers…

Vigilante Southland #1

(W) Gary Phillips (A) Elena Casagrande (CA) Mitch Gerads

Donny was feeling pretty settled in his cushy life. Even though his girlfriend was politically active, he never gave social justice or racial issues any time. So, when Dorrie discovers something she shouldn’t have and ends up dead, no one expects Donny to be the guy to carry on her work-but that’s exactly what he does, putting on a mask and taking to the streets. He soon finds himself tangled in family history, political conspiracy, and a plot that goes far deeper than he ever imagined.
Set in the heart of Los Angeles, this new VIGILANTE series raises an old question while making it relevant to our times: when you witness bad things being done, how far would you go to set them right? Written by Gary Phillips, noted writer of the Ivan Monk series of novels, and drawn by Elena Casagrande (Suicide Risk), this hard-hitting tale of revenge and redemption takes the Vigilante into a whole new danger zone.

•  And now, at the end, Vision stands alone. He must decide how he will go on, if he will go on, if he can go on. And that decision will shape the Marvel Universe for quite a while.
•  The epic, stunning conclusion to the most highly praised series of the year. Simply put, this is the issue everyone will be talking about.
