Sandman Overture HC Banner

Pulp Fiction Newsletter Week of 11/4/15

Hey guys. We’re back from Comikaze with hopefully a lot of new customers in tow, and we’re hitting the ground running with a ton of new books! Marvel is really outdoing themselves this week with the release of 7 new series. I have preview links for all of them below and we’ll have them for 50% OFF all year long. Outside of Marvel’s new stuff, we also have 4 indy deals of the week and they all look like winners that I will make time to read tomorrow night. Sam Humphries has a new book (did any of you read Our love is Real?), Grant Morrison has a new book, Majorie Liu has a big fat new book, AND…Warren Ellis has a new James Bond book! It took me a little bit to find, but here’s something Ellis wrote on his enthusiasm for writing the character that got me pretty excited for the comic.

On the trade side, we finally see the release of Sandman Overture, the oft-delayed Sandman prequel with art by JH Williams III. And speaking of Neil Gaiman, he will be appearing at Long Beach State’s Carpenter Center to speak on Saturday, November 14! Click here for details. In honor of his appearance in our hometown, both stores will have displays with some of our favorite books by the prolific author. Also, friend of the store Eric Bryan has put together some recommended reading for our site which you can check out here! I’m glad he included Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader; I welled up with tears the first time I read that story. For a couple of more off-the-beaten-path Gaiman stories, I’d recommend Murder Mysteries which is worth it for the beautiful P Craig Russell artwork alone and Wordsworth, a short horror story he worked on with frequent collaborator Dave McKean. You can hear me blab about that story here at minute 9:59 if you’re interested.

If you like to dive into our dollar bins, keep the next couple of weekends open as we’ll be having a couple of quarter sales at both stores. Read below for more details. Ok that’s enough from me. See you at the bottom…

Irredeemable Premier HC Vol 1

(W) Mark Waid (A) Peter Krause (CA) John Cassaday
Mark Waid is not only our former editor-in-chief, but is also one of our favorite storytellers in comics, having amassed a long list of critically acclaimed hits in his 20-year career and writing such iconic characters as Superman, Captain America, Batman, The Flash, and Wonder Woman. Waid earned a legion of fans because his stories tended to ground seemingly infallible heroes, and in titles like DC’s Kingdom Come, Gorilla Comics’ Empire, and our own Irredeemable, he showed the other side of what it’s like to wear the capes and tights. We are proud to present Waid’s award-nominated Irredeemable in a new collection of oversized, deluxe hardcovers for existing and new fans to enjoy! When the Plutonian, the world’s greatest superhero, snaps and turns into the world’s greatest villain, only his former teammates have a chance at stopping his rampage.
