Upcoming Events

Creator Signing – Jordan Hart (Doppelganger, Terminarch)
Wednesday November 15th

One of our Culver customers has a new mini-series coming out from Alterna called Doppelganger! Jordan describes it as “a buddy-supernatural story with a healthy amount of humor (think Fright Night from 1985).” Great, I love Fright Night! His new book comes out November 15th and he’ll be promoting it at the Culver store that day. Come by and check it out!

Local Comic Book Store Day
Saturday Nov 18th Both Stores

Local Comic Shop Day celebrates locally owned independent comic book specialty stores, showcasing their unique and vital role in being the primary fire-starters of pop culture. Both stores will have a bunch of LCBSD exclusive merchandise including alternate covers and special hardcover edition graphic novels. Click here for a closer look. We will also be having a Sidewalk Sale! Fill up a small comic box with comics for just $9.99…small box can hold 150+ comics, so that’s less than 10 cents a comic for you!

“Getting Into the Comics Biz” one-day workshop w Jim Higgins
Sunday Nov 19th Culver City 1pm to 6pm

I’m Jim Higgins, and I’ve been a writer and editor in the comics business for 20 years. I worked as an editor at DC Comics and taught at CalArts, Otis College of Art and Design, Sequential Artists Workshop, and other fine institutions.

In this one-day intensive session, information is given on submitting, how to prepare samples, and how to put together a pitch for a series or graphic novel. Writers will learn about how to find artists, how to work with them, and more. Artists will learn about how to find projects and find work both large and small-scale. There will be an overview of various publishers, both those who cater to the comic store market, and those who sell mostly in book stores. You’ll find out what editors are looking for, what they expect, and what they DON’T want to see. You’ll learn the skills you need for what you want to do.

There’ll also be info on printing, self-publishing, and Kick-starter. There’s a lot of information given that’s not commonly known as well as material that will dispel some misconceptions about the way the comics world works. There will be some time to chat and network with other attendees for a while after the talk is done.

Cost: $75 (payable at the register the day of the workshop)

Black Friday SALE!
Friday Nov 14th thru Sunday Nov 26th

Lot’s of clearance toys, collectibles, and omnibuses! You know the drill. If we have too much of it, it has to go! We’ll have another Sidewalk Sale (fill up a small comic box for just $9.99) with a new selection of comics for both stores as well.
