Pulp Fiction Newsletter Week of 5/16/18

Hello everyone! Lots of cool comics this week, both awesome new #1’s and follow up issues. I had a chance to read both Flavor #1 and A Walk Through Hell #1. They’re both very different but very good. Flavor is an easy recommendation if you’re familiar with stuff like Avatar the Last Airbender. If that’s your jam than you’ll dig this too! You’ll also dig it if you’re a foodie, which I’m not really, but there was enough vaguely Eastern Asian genre tropes to make it a win for me. Now, horror is definitely more my speed and a Walk Through Hell is a must read. Garth Ennis is putting aside his trademark irreverent humor to do something disturbing. I am standing at full attention with this book and the covers for future issues promise even more messed up stuff to come.

For follow up issues, we have Avengers #2, Barrier #3, Dead Hand #2, Gideon Falls #3, Harley Loves Joker #2, and Infidel #3. I read Avengers #1! And I liked it! If you’re into the movies and looking for a place to dip the big toe, this is it. Barrier at this point is coming out weekly, so if you picked up the first issue on Free Comic Book Day, let us know if you want #2 or #3 put aside for you! Dead Hand #1 was really great! We still have first issues at Long Beach and I still maintain that if you like Brubaker spy hijinks like Captain America Winter Soldier or Velvet, you should check this out. Infidel #3 was the last issue both Max and I got to read early and we both still thought it was excellent. Can’t speak to future issues, but Infidel #1-3 is solid horror comics. See you at the bottom…

Before the night is out, our heroes will encounter terror beyond their most appalling nightmares-in a place where the night may never end at all.
