Pulp Fiction Newsletter Week of 5/18/16

Hello everyone! The weekly deals return this Wednesday with DC’s first crack at the Hanna-Barbera license and the first comic written by William Gibson, the father of Cyber-punk. Marvel fans won’t want to miss the zero issue of Civil War II out this week as well. On the trade side we have a huge gallery edition for Batman The Dark Knight Returns and lots of follow-up collections including the third volume of Guerillas! Those of you that know me pretty well have heard me recommend this book before. It’s kind of like a pet comic for me.

Those of you that love the graphic novel “trading post” at Culver will have a bunch of new books to look at this week. Lots of good, gently used books in there now.

On a more somber note, many of you no doubt have heard Darwyn Cooke passed away. It’s clear he was a beloved artist since I had several people text and tweet at me over the weekend including my mother who isn’t a comics fan at all. As a 90s kid, I sort of felt his presence in the Batman Animated Series for which he storyboarded for a time. My first comic book outing with him were his run on Will Eisner’s The Spirit and his adaptations of the Parker novels. Many know him for his career-defining work on DC The New frontier. Max from the Long Beach store said it best I think: “I think no one illustrated the spirit of the DC characters better.” He will be missed. See you at the bottom..
