Pulp Fiction Newsletter Week of 6/12/17

Hello everyone! Did you see the Black Panther trailer! Run the Jewels are you kidding?!?!?! It only took my third re-watch to get that the dog at the beginning was barking at the cat in the tree. Very clever.

Ok we have three deals of the week, and I’ve actually already two of them. Jimmy’s Bastards is just Garth Ennis doing Garth Ennis. The concept (what if all of “not James Bond’s” illegitimate children had serious abandonment issues and wanted revenge) is one Ennis should have no problem getting a lot of mileage out of. Kill the Minotaur on the other hand, was a bit of a surprise! It’s simply a retelling of the Theseus hero’s tale, but the pacing and characterizations were good, and the art was solid. Really enjoyed it.

We also have the new Defenders book getting out there ahead of the Netflix series, the beginning of DC’s new big thing “Dark Days” and most importantly the beginning of the DC Looney Tunes crossovers! Not into it? Go check out Leek Weeks’ artwork for the Elmer Fudd Batman crossover. It will make a believer out of you!

On the trade side we have all of Bendis’ crime noir stuff wrapped up in an omnibus package, some popular DC reprints, and Spidy omnibus that Max is at least very excited about.

“Oh my stars and garters did you see the news? I’ll take five copies of Batman #24 please!” Despite limiting sales of Batman #24 to one per customer, we could not meet the insane demand and we’re tapped out early last week. However, DC is fast-tracking a second printing due for June 21st! We’re also restocking a few other sold out new series this week as well including Cable #1.

Finally, we have some free tickets to give away for screening of Resident Evil Vendetta on June 19th! There are two showings at 7PM and 10PM at multiple theaters in the LA/OC area. If you’re interested, respond to this email and let us know! Here’s the “press release”:

RESIDENT EVIL: VENDETTA is the third installment in the massively popular CG animated film franchise, following “Resident Evil: Degeneration” (2008) and “Resident Evil: Damnation” (2012), and will premiere in U.S. movie theaters on June 19 only. Exclusive to the U.S., this not-to-be-missed one-night cinema event includes a specially-produced introduction from the cast and behind-the-scenes footage.

Derived from Capcom’s Resident Evil™, one of the bestselling video game franchises of all time (72 million + copies sold), “RESIDENT EVIL: VENDETTA” features the fan-favorite characters Leon S. Kennedy (Matt Mercer), Chris Redfield (Kevin Dorman) and Rebecca Chambers (Erin Cahill).
