Pulp Fiction Newsletter Week of 7/1

Hello everyone! It’s another new week and there are a bunch of new non-Marvel/DC series in contrast to the last month or so, most notably a new Image series from Brian K. Vaughan, called We Stand on Guard #1. Vaughan is the writer of Saga, the indy book that goes toe to toe in sales with the most popular Marvel and DC books every month. Will Eisner’s The Spirit #1 looks pretty great. Those of you that remember Darwyn Cooke’s run from a few years back know that there’s still a lot of life left in this character! Empty Zone #1 was a hot book we sold out of quickly from a couple weeks ago, but we’re going to make it a deal of the week for those of you that missed it. Grant Morrison has a new book called 18 Days from Graphic India and it has a 99 cent cover price! Check it out if you’re a Morrison fan, interested in Indian literature, or fantasy in general. 8House, Onyx, and The Spire all look pretty cool too! Good Wednesday!

We’ll definitely have more Secret Wars #2 this week and we have plenty of #3 still so those of you stuck on the first issue should be able to catch up before #4 drops. We also have more copies of Providence and Injection #1, by two of our favorite British, bearded bards (too much?). On the trade front we have the first giant slipcase for Y The Last Man (good week for Vaughan fans), the second trade for The Wicked and the Divine, and a couple cool international releases!

Finally, we have a special guest at the Culver City store this Wednesday morning! His name is D.J. Kirkbride and he’s the writer of The Bigger Bang, recently released in trade from IDW. Check out a preview here. See you at the bottom…

Grant Morrison’s 18 Days #1

(W) Grant Morrison (A/CA) Jeevan Kang
From legendary creator Grant Morrison (All-Star Superman, Batman & Robin, The Invisibles), comes the first chapter in his newest creation. 18 Days is the story of three generations of super-warriors, meeting for the final battle of their age, a climactic war that concludes the age of the gods and begins the age of man. “This is not a Lord of the Rings or a Star Wars where the good guys win because they are right. The good guys in 18 Days are forced to cheat and lie and break rules to win. Although it has fantastic, mythic trappings, this is a very modern story of realpolitik and the failure of ideals in the face of harsh truth.” – Grant Morrison. Main covers by Jeevan Kang and Mukesh Singh. Also available with Cosmic Krishna and Oracle variant covers, each limited to 1,000 copies.
