Pulp Fiction Newsletter Week of 7/15

Hello everyone. I hope those of you that braved SDCC had a good trip and have some good stories. I look forward to hearing them! I wasn’t in San Diego, but I had my

own kind of crazy weekend so let’s keep this brief. On the deal of the week front, we have yet ANOTHER round of new Secret Wars series and we’ll have those at half off. Marvel has also finally revealed many of the new line-up post-Secret Wars. If you haven’t already checked them out, you can do so here. Let us know what you want to try if you’re a subscriber so we can order accordingly! Valiant has a big cross-over series starting this week called Book of the Dead and we’re doing the first issue for one buck! Finally, Brandon Graham (King City, Prophet, 8House) has a new anthology-style comic from Image called Island. I had a chance to read it a few weeks ago and I think many of you will really enjoy it!

The Culver City store has a couple of guests this week, Allen Carter and Matt MacFarland. I have links to their websites below. I mentioned it last week, but it bears mentioning again: the Monster Elementary crew have been frequent guests of our and they are currently kickstarting their next book. Follow the link here to see what they have cooking. Finally, back issue hounds out there, don’t forget we’re blowing out a lot of old dollar bin stuff for 10 cents each this coming weekend!  See you at the bottom…

Book of Death #1 Deal of the Week 99 cents

(W) Robert Venditti (A) Robert Gill, Doug Braithwaite (CA) Robert Gill
“A coward dies a thousand times before his death, but the valiant taste of death but once.”
The Valiant heroes. X-O Manowar. Bloodshot. Ninjak. The Harbinger Renegades. Unity. This is how they lived. This is how they died. Now we know. The Book of the Geomancer has recorded it all. But only a young girl – the last in a line of the enigmatic mystics who protect the Earth known as Geomancers – has seen this future come to pass, from the coming cataclysm to the dawn of the 41st century. Alone with her sworn protector, the Eternal Warrior – a soldier battle-forged across five thousand years of combat – the duo must defy their allies to stop the Dark Age that now threatens to eclipse our world. Together, they are the number one target of every hero and villain on Earth. Either the Eternal Warrior hands her over… or they take him down. But can even he single-handedly protect one child when the entire Valiant Universe wages war against him? The blockbuster Valiant event of 2015 starts here as New York Times best-selling writer Robert Venditti (X-O MANOWAR) joins superstar-in-the-making Robert Gill (ARMOR HUNTERS: HARBINGER) and visionary artist Doug Braithwaite (ARMOR HUNTERS) to begin a thousand-year journey into the future of the Valiant Universe… and rain, fire, blood and war on the heroes of today.

The King in Yellow

(W) Robert W. Chambers, I.N.J. Culbard (A/CA) I. N. J. Culbard
The supernatural stories that make up Robert W. Chambers’s classic piece of weird fiction are tied together by a play that brings madness to all who read it: The King in Yellow. It’s a book that draws readers in with an irresistible yet innocent opening act, then drives them insane with the poisonous words of Act 2. An influence on writers from H. P. Lovecraft to Neil Gaiman, The King in Yellow is one of the most important works of American supernatural fiction. In this dangerously unputdownable graphic-novel adaptation, I. N. J. Culbard brings to life a thrilling tale of horror that will make readers laugh and cry and tremble with fright.
