Pulp Fiction Newsletter Week of 9/16/15

Hey guys. Thanks to all of you that came by to visit us at Long Beach Comic Con this past weekend; the familiar faces were welcome!

We have two deals of the week this Wednesday: Tokyo Ghost #1 by Rick Remender (Black Science, Fear Agent, Low, Deadly Class) and Sean Murphy (Punk Rock Jesus, The Wake, Chrononauts) and The Paybacks #1 by Donny Cates, Eliot Rahal, and Geoff Shaw (Buzzkill). I haven’t read Buzzkill yet, but I heard it was pretty interesting and The Paybacks’ concept is the kind of deconstructionist dark humor that I really enjoy. As far as Tokyo Ghost is concerned, all I need to hear is Sean Murphy draws science fiction stuff and you have my attention! This week we also have the release of the long-awaited Jeph Loeb and Time Sale collaboration, Captain America White.

On the trade side, we have some follow-up trades for some of the more popular Image sires like Birthright and The fade Out. Fans of Scott Snyder’s DC output are in for a treat this week with the first Batman Endgame hardcover as well as a big deluxe hardcover collecting his whole Swamp Thing run.

Lastly, I have a couple of important updates on upcoming SALES. First, we have a munch of leftovers from a Joss Whedon-themed event and we need to clean house! Until the end of September, we’re selling all Buffy Library Editions, Serenity Hardcovers, and Astonishing X-Men Ultimate Collections for 50% OFF!!!

Tokyo Ghost #1 Deal of the Week $1.99!

(W) Rick Remender (A/CA) Sean Murphy
The Isles of Los Angeles 2089: Humanity is addicted to technology, a population of unemployed leisure seekers blissfully distracted from toxic contamination, who borrow, steal, and kill to buy their next digital fix. Getting a virtual buzz is the only thing left to live for. It’s the biggest industry, the only industry, the drug everyone needs, and gangsters run it all. And who do these gangsters turn to when they need their rule enforced? Constables Led Dent and Debbie Decay. This duo is about to be given a job that will force them out of the familiar squalor of Los Angeles to take down the last tech-less country on Earth: The Garden Nation of Tokyo. Bestselling writer RICK REMENDER (BLACK SCIENCE, DEADLY CLASS) and superstar art team SEAN MURPHY (CHRONONAUTS, Punk Rock Jesus) and MATT HOLLINGSWORTH (WYTCHES, Hawkeye) examine our growing addiction to technology while thirsting for a nature we continue to destroy.

In Butterfly, screenwriter Arash Amel (Grace of Monaco, Erased) brings that aesthetic to comics. Written by Amel and Marguerite Bennett (A-Force, Sleepy Hollow) and illustrated by Antonio Fuso (The Girl Who Played with Fire) and Stefano Simeone, Butterfly is a dark thriller that explores the nature of family in the uncompromising world of global espionage. What It Is: Butterfly is one of Project Delta’s deep cover agents, no birth certificate, no social security number, a complete ghost. When her cover is blown and she’s set up for a murder she didn’t commit, she is unknowingly led to her father’s doorstep, a man she thought died 20 years ago. Trained to trust nothing and no one, Butterfly must decide whether to seek answers with the Project, or believe the man who betrayed her years ago.
